An elopement wedding is not everyone’s cup of tea (or dash of whiskey) but there are certainly benefits to planning the simplest wedding of all.
Below is a list of good reasons why an elopement might be exactly what you are looking for in a wedding option!
- Family politics. Families can be difficult, we won’t go into it too deeply but planning a wedding can bring the best, or the worst, out in our families. It’s sometimes hard to meet everybody’s expectations, who to invite, the best food to have, where to stay…did I mention who to invite? And large families can really take the joy out of what should be a happy time for you and your partner.
- The financial benefits. The money saved from an elopement means that instead of a lavish and expensive “do” that you may be paying off for the next 12 months (or longer), you can spend your dollars on the honeymoon destination, or the house that you wish to renovate, or even take that plunge into the share market to secure a future for you both. After all, it’s your future. That’s being sensible!
- You can travel. Travel to the remotest parts of the planet if you like, and eloping means you won’t have to worry about getting family and friends to the destination. You can enjoy the intimacy of a private beach and feel completely alone. And along with that comes the bliss of not having to ensure that everyone is having fun, and you can just…RELAX!!
- You are introverted. It may just be that just thinking of giving wedding speeches, making toasts, being the centre of attention from morning til night makes your stomach do flip-flops! Of course no-one would blame you if you just wanted to escape the circus and do it on your own, in your own way.
- Cultural or religious issues. Sometimes trying to sort the differences out between two families that just don’t see things the same way can be exhausting. Your love is what is important, it should be celebrated the way you want to; and it shouldn’t be your job to have to gather people together who just don’t want to be gathered together!
Whatever the reason for your elopement, there is always the option of having a get-together with family and friends after you have returned from what might just be the most perfect wedding ever!
